Here's an idea!
Combine indigenous recognition in the constitution with the legal framing of the Australian republic..
..by constitutionally requiring the President of Australia be elected from the nation's indigenous constituency.
A few definitions, presidential job description, constitutional rejig, to be sorted. Too easy.
First round of voting: indigenous constituency elects a limited number of presidential candidates.
Second round: national constituency elects the president from the indigenous-elected candidates.
Light blue touch paper and stand back.
A piddling, begrudged nod to history will not fix the hole in the national soul.
And who wouldn't love to see President Marcia Langton give the clowns in the other arm of government a good kicking?
Share the idea, people.
